"Pet sematary is by Stephen King`s own personal opinion, his most `horrific`book. Although I have only read only a fraction of Stephen King`s books, I can see why.
Pet Sematary tells of a graveyard in a woods, soley used for pet animals. Beyond which, deeper in the woods is an old buriel ground, once used by the micmac indians. Here too pets are buried, the only difference in this ground is that the animals come back to life. Louis creed discovers this when his daughters cat is killed on the busy road next to their house, which leads him to burying the cat in the old burial ground. The following day the cat returns to life, but has in some way changed in personality. Further on in the book, Louis`own son Gage is killed on the same road, which inevitably leads ownself to ask whether it will take the same course of action as he did with his daughter`s cat. I won`t tell you here though. Read the book to find out yourselves.
The idea beyind `Pet Sematary`is very well thought of, & is like a lot of his other stories, based on Stephen King`s own life after his own child was nearly knocked down, which led him to `What if...`I think Stephen King tackles the subject of grief very well in the story & leads one to ask themselves; what would they do if they knew there was a way to bring them loved ones back to life. The conclusion in Stephen King`s opinion is that the dead should be left alone, even if the power to bring them back existed. One can sum it up with what one of the characters in the book called Jud Crandell said: "Dead is better"."
"This was my first Stephen King novel, and I read it when I was 16. I read it again in the last year too and I would say I enjoyed it just ast much if not more. Stephen King is very skilled at creating realistic deep characters. At the end you feel like they are close friends. He is also good at making their horrors your own. I wish he stuck to more drama then horror because the more weird and otherworldly he gets the less his talent shows. The best and most horrifying parts of this book were real life issues thhat we all might deal with at some time in our lives. Death of a family member, etc.
It isn't 5 stars because the climcatic scene was not only disapointing but insulting. I can't stand when writers think that to make a supernatural being or alien (Predator) more frightening, they should make it drop the f-bomb and swear a lot. COME ON! Don't insult me. Up until this point, which is at the very end of this book, it is a masterpiece. This will always be my favorite novel by him just because it opened my eyes to his incredible talent."
"This was my first Stephen King book! I read it when I was 15 years old....let's just say a long time ago. lol. I loved it and I remember it scaring me to death. I'm long overdue for a reread, so we will see if it stands the test of time.....does it still deserve my 5 stars???
Yes, it's still 5 stars in my book!! I thoroughly enjoyed it all over again. Stephen King builds things up, starting with this average family that you get to know and really begin to care for. Even knowing what happens to them in the long run, I was creeped out. I had forgotten all the wonderfully creepy little details, and loved rediscovering them! For me, this definitely withstood the test of time!"
