About this title: William C. Martin has freshly reinterpreted the Tao Te Ching to speak directly and clearly to the most difficult of modern tasks -- parenting. With its combination of free verse and judicious advice, The Parent's Tao Te Ching addresses the great themes that permeate the Tao and that support loving parent- child relationships: responding without judgment, emulating natural processes, and balancing between doing and being.

"I read this book on breaks at work, while away from home and feeling slightly clearer. What a treasure it has become to me, giving me the most simple and appropriate reminders during such a challenging time. Raising a 3-year-old and a little baby has been the most difficult project of my life thus far. This book grounded me and helped me look more critically at my frustrations, my feelings, and my actions.
Above all things, I came away from this book with a sense of lightness and peacefulness. I've learned to let go of so many things and just be still with compassion. Unlike the Tao of Motherhood, which is a gift to all mothers, this book applies easily to both mothers and fathers by not appointing gender to the lessons. I plan to keep this in my purse (or for know, in my breast-pump bag!) for awhile to come as a grounding tool and book of comfort.
Though I have finished reading this book, my next project is to journal a bit on each of the 81 lessons. Each lesson ends with a brief paragraph of things to think about and apply, which relate to the lesson itself. Knowing a little about how my brain works, I think I will be able to integrate and really expand on this book by doing some writing and personal reflection."
"I found this book at a time my life needed direction, and I was searching for answers. What I found was an interpretation of very old wisdom, an adaptation directed to parents living in a world in which it can be difficult to raise children. I found myself moved to tears as I turned the pages, knowing I should stop and take it in slowly, but unable to. I only wish I had this book to guide me within the first year or so I became a parent."
"This book contains lovely sentiments that help you stay focused and calm and realize the timelessness of the process of being a parent and the innate wisdom you didn't know you had. Perspective is key. You can easily pick it up and put it back down and flip through and read it nonsequentially, which is great when you are a tired new parent."
