"Along with the illustrations, the story was charming, I repeat myself a lot when it comes to picture books, but there are just so many out there drawn so beautifully. This one was one that I owned, and loved. The dog in this story always made me feel compelled to protect animals. I can't exactly depict why, I guess as a child I made the connection that if an animal had something wrong with it, it was usually discarded or went without a home. The farmer in this story didn't mind that his dog never barked, he loved the dog the way it was, which touched my heart in a very strong and influential way."
