About this title: An exploration of aggressive behavior in girls. The author theorizes that because girls are traditionally not encouraged to express anger, those feelings are often repressed only to come out later as aggressive behavior--aggression which girls seem most often to take out on each other. ODD GIRL OUT offers advice to parents, teachers, and ...

"AS I WAS READING THIS BOOK I REMEMBERED ABOUT HOW I USED TO BE AS A TEEN TO OTHER GIRLS AND HOW I USED TO DO SOME OF THE THINGS MENTIONED TROUGH OUT THIS BOOK. I LEARNED THAT THERE IS A TERM FOR WAS WE GIRLS DO WHICH, "ALTERNATIVE AGGRESSION" THAT STANDS FOR HOW GIRLS INSTEAD OF GOING AT TIT WITH OTHERS THEY PLOT, ARE SNEAKY, BETRAY, AND GO FOR WHAT HURTS MORE, EMOTIONS. OVER ALL I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT WAS FILLED WITH INTERESTING FACT ABOUT HOW GIRLS ACT AND THE BEST PART ID THAT IT IS TRUE RESEARCH DONE BY RACHEL SIMMONS. SO IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY YOUR FRIENDS ARE MAD AT YOU, IGNORING YOU, OR HURT YOU THEN YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK TO FIND OUT. :D"
"Everyone needs to read this book. Whether you are a girl, have girls, or know girls, I don't even care, just read it.
At it's most basic, this book is about how Neo-Victorian sterotypes create a culture of agression in girls, from the moment they begin school.
While parents and educators allow "boys to be boys," and solve their problems through physical agression, this option is not available to girls. They are taught, above all, to be NICE. Even if you have a problem. Even if you are in an abusive friendship or relationship.
Girls are not taught how to confront, verbalize their agression, or even to let it go. Mean girls hide under a cover of niceness in front of parents."
"I like this book, but under conditions. I recently graduated from an all-girls high school and we were asked to read this book one summer. That was the summer going into my junior year. The book is entirely accurate. During my teenage years, I have encountered all the forms of "violence" that the book details. However, since I was living the experience at the time I read the book, Rachel Simmons did not teach me anything that I did not already know, nor give me advice I had not already heard. My complaint with the book was that I read it too late, so for me, it was just common sense. I think every girl going into high school should have to read this book, to give them some sort of an idea of what they are up against (they will have already had a preview in elementary school). It should definitely be required reading for adolescent girls. I highly recommend it to parents of such children, and ask that they keep an open mind. Ms. Simmons knows what she is talking about. I can vouch for that."
"Really good. I can't say it was eye- opening being aware that this goes on, but the depth of deception and evilness displayed by some of the yong women is amazing. I see the same type of behavior in young men, especially middle shcool age and into high school too. I guess boys realized they can get away with this type of meaness just like girls because it isn't as obvious, and no hard and fast rules at schools."
