About this title: The definitive statement of Ayn Rand's philosophy, written by the preeminent Rand exponent and scholar. Illustrated with excerpts from her published works, complete with an abundance of new material that Rand communicated only in private conversation with Peikoff, this book illuminates Objectivism--and its creator--with brilliant clarity.

"Okay, so I didn't really read this WHOLE book, just skimmed through and read parts of it all. I gave it 4 stars because I thought the author could have done a much better job of putting it in layman's terms. I get that he is a philosophy professor, but this was not supposed to be a text book. I would say this is for the doctorate level reader, I was seriously struggling through some of it! (But really great for bedtime reading if you need help falling asleep!)
That said, I love a lot about her philosophy. Now, if only there was someone to philosophize about it with!
In summary, Ayn Rand believed that you should only base your decisions, goals and energies on reality--and then live 100% true to what is right. (regardless of what is popular, widely believed or 'feels good') All human decisions should be based on the 'long term' support of life. Feelings should follow and be a natural outgrowth from correct reason--the reverse is the root of all evil (basing your reality on your feelings of the moment). Any inconsistencies between feeling and knowledge means you need to recheck your premises and rethink things until they align. A conscientious, independent life lived true to correct principles based on reason and reality will ultimately lead to happiness--man's ultimate purpose. All success should be the result of independent effort--no mooching. It is unfortunate that she was totally atheist (because of her belief that people based a knowledge of God strictly on feelings, thus His existence cannot be proved or disproved--Therefore not based on reality and not worth even discussing). I believe that the knowledge of Deity is a proven fact, i.e. reality. Just because the scriptures are old, doesn't mean they didn't happen. And Joseph Smith and other prophets throughout time have seen and spoken with God. He is real and this is a reality that humans should definitely research and live accordingly."
