About this title: Many of the most widely used prescription drugs cause the body to lose nutrients and, as a result, cause nutritional health problems. Based on extensive scientific research, The Nutritional Cost of Prescription Drug is the first book for the general public to describe the nutrient losses caused by prescription drugs and to present ways to combat these losses and maintain good nutritional health. It's essential reading for all prescription drug users.

"THE NUTRITIONAL COST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS is well presented, credible, useful, and reader friendly. It's only drawback that I can see (I am not a doctor) is that not every drug prescribed is included. However, since the book is organized by category, most patients can find the nutritional cost of their class of medicines. A reader can look up the drug he has been prescribed and see what side effects are most likely to affect his nutrition. For example, statins (e.g., Lipitor) tend to diminish co-enzyme Q-10, a necessity for several basic bodily functions. A co-Q-10 supplement might therefore be recommended. Aspirin can cause calcium deficiency and calcium deficiency can lead to osteoporosis. Many drugs interfere with vitamin absorption. Among the 24 listed as depleting vitamin B-6 are estrogen (hormone replacement for women) and oral contraceptives. B-6 is important for skin, circulation, and nerves. Deficiency can contribute to a host of problems, including depression and raised homocysteine levels -- which are associated with inflammation and heart disease. This book will help people who want to try nutrition before drugs and people who do take prescription drugs and want to minimize side-effects."
