"I the main character as she reviewed her life and moved forward in a positive way. The history side of it was interesting as well. I felt the end was rushed a bit compared to the whole novel."
"Definitely not as good as this sequel's predecessor, Through a Glass Darkly. Somehow, I couldn't get enough meat from the story to really chew on, even though it was 734 pages long. It was hard to identify with the characters; I guess I just miss Roger from the first book, and it's hard to like Barbara: She's too beautiful 24/7, and though she is described as honorable and having the courage of a lion, she sleeps around too much, she's self-centered, and her courage is never put to the test."
"I'm not saying this is a bad book, it's not my style. It seemed to go on and on and repeated information. I couldn't stick with it. I flipped through the pages, catching what was going on page after page to see what would happen. There was no way I could read it word for word. I just didn't find it that interesting. The characters were good. I liked the main character Barbara and how well she treated her servants and hated the guys who treated the servants badly."
"Liked this book much more than the first, mostly on account of how much lasciviousness took place in the first book, true to the times, yet too much for me. I love how you get to know the characters. I read it very quickly, eating it up."
