"This book is sooooo good. I don't have any violence in my life, but I'm glad that I didn't let the title scare me. This is one of those books you'll end up reading a few times if you read it at all.
One of my favorite things about this book was the "santa claus" expression. Instead of viewing your needs as a burden, consider them a gift to the other person. You're giving them the opportunity to help you. This was such a huge shift in thinking for me. I felt an immediate break-through reading it.
The other section I truly enjoyed was how to express gratitude the best way. This is now one of my all time favorite books."
"Um livro que me ajudou a mudar (para melhor) minha maneira de enxergar o mundo. Um divisor de águas. Observação, sentimento, necessidade, pedido. Somos reponsáveis por nossas ações e sentimentos. Podemos nos comunicar de maneira que possamos entender aos outros e sermos melhor compreendidos por estes e por nós mesmos. A aplicação é difícil no começo, mas sem dúvida ajuda a vislumbrar um caminho a seguir (pelo menos para mim)."
"Very interesting framework for understanding the limitations of the English language when needing to communicate feelings (as opposed to thoughts) and in separating one's observations from evaluations. It provides some very concrete steps for how to improve both your speaking and listening skills so that you're communicating observations and feelings rather than judgements and blame. It also touches on how to listen for people's needs rather than their judgements. It may come across as a little new age-y at times but it's worth reading! I'd especially recommend this for people who work with clients (all kinds!), students/kids, or in a team work setting (that pretty much covers everyone)."
"The non-violent communication process: the concrete actions we are observing that are affecting our well-being. How we FEEL in relation to what we are observing The NEEDS, values, desires, etc., that are creating our feelings The concrete actions we REQUEST in order to enrich our lives.
Marshall Rosenberg quotes Marianne Williamson at the end of this book: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. You are child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us. It is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.""
