"Finally letting myself dive into Deleuze, and despite the fact that this is more "conversations" than any of his "heavy" books, this served to prove that I think I am "aware" enough of the rest of philosophy/theory to really "get it," but more importantly, this has me really excited to read more of his thought. I haven't been this excited about ideas since reading Bataille's Guilty earlier this year.
"Mediators" is probably my favorite essay/"interview" in the book, mainly because many of the ideas it establishes are stronger affirmations of thoughts that I've been wandering towards recently. Also, I think Deleuze's works on film will provide the finally context I need to actually fully articulate my reaction to film."
"'AND is neither one thing nor the other, it's always in between, between two things; it's the borderline, there's always a border, a line of flight or flow, only we don't see it, because it's the least perceptible of things. And yet it's along this line of flight that things come to pass, becomings evolve, revolutions take shape' (Deleuze: 1995, 45)."
"Sure Deleuze is a poststructuralist, but who really cares about that? What I found in this book of mostly interviews wasn't just a great introduction to Deleuze, but an actual usefulness, as in useful for my own thinking. The last 12 pages of the book, the interview Control and Becoming and the short essay Postscript on Control Societies was worth the price of admission. The book is set into 5 parts; From Anti-oedipus to A Thousand Plateaus, Cinema, Michel Foucault, Philosophy, Politics. It's easy to jump around and not feel lost, and I've found myself returning to this book on occasion to glean bits of the war without battles, the negotiations that happen though a lifetime of thought and fighting power.
I'll gladly lend or give this book to someone I've hugged or kissed in real life, so if you are a friend and are interested in reading this, let me know."
