"We read this for the kids book club this week. It's the story of miracles you see out in nature and all around you when you are looking. These are the type of miracles rarely found in a big city like Pittsburgh PA but go out into the country side and all sorts of miracles can happen from a change in a dad a former prisoner of war to a brother and sister.
Brother and sister don't always treat each other with the best of friendship so it's a nice lesson to talk about sibling rivalry too."
"I really loved some parts of this book, but the bickering between Marley and Joe irritated me to no end. I got really sick of Joe's "You're a girl and thus can't do this" attitude, and I quickly tired of Marley's inability to keep her mouth shut. Wow, that sounds like I hated the book - I really didn't."
"I loved this story! I couldn't get it out of my mind for a couple of days after I finished reading it. This story won the Newberry Award and deserved it. It is a story about a family that moves to the country after the father comes home from being a prisoner of war to help him recover. As the family learns how to live off the land and help others, miracles start to happen. These small miracles pull the family together and change their lives forever. Very inspiring, especially during these tough economic times. You have to read it!"
"I didn't really like this book. It was, well, mediocre. That's why I rated it "it was ok". I can't exactly put my finger on why it was unattractive, but it was one of those books I read just because it was there. In short, it wasn't very attention-grabbing. Some may disagree, but none of it stuck in my mind."
