About this title: A magnet to the poets, philosophers, troubadours, and misfits who inhabit Port of Spain, Miguel Street is a place where tales of glory and debauchery vie with declarations of love and anger, where neighborhood melodramas are scrutinized, and wisdom is meted out to everyone. These vignettes reflect the neighborhood where Naipaul grew up.

""Miguel Street" is an excellent written piece by V.S. Naipaul. It discussed dream, escapism and trauma within human heart. Miguel Street is micro world. Different kinds of people lived in there. Crazy inventors, liars, drunkards, record-keeping mother, and poet who immersed in his romantic world, they were all in Miguel Street. My favorite character among all the interesting characters was B. Wordsworth. His life was somewhat romantic. He was mysterious poet who basically wondering on the street everyday. He suddenly appeared in the narrator's life, introduced poem to this little boy. The narrator and I were amazed by this stranger. The world's greatest poem, romantic relationship between Wordsworth and a lady fascinated the narrator. But B. Wordsworth turned out to be a tramp. He was not a poet, he was just a liar. It was not surprising, detailed description about him or perhaps, his name, foreshadow reader that B. Wordsworth was not a poet. William Wordsworth, a famous English romantic poet. The Romantic Age in English literature was launched by him. His relationship with Annette Vallon is identical to B. Wordsworth's. It is not a coincident, B. Wordsworth was being Bogart, another character in Miguel Street that has to live with someone else's name. (Humphrey Bogart, the "Bogart" in the book pretends to be, was generally considered to be the greatest male actor). Both B. Wordsworth and Bogart were pathetic. They could never become Humphrey or William, but they chose to use Humphrey or William's last name to fulfill their life. B. Wordsworth vanished shortly after he told the narrator the truth. Miguel Street had forgotten B. Wordsworth, as the narrator stated, "It was just as though B. Wordsworth had never existed""
"The many stories within Miguel Street, by V.S Naipaul was a pretty good book to read. Within each chapter of the book, it describes a different or new character, and the narrator involves himself with the experiences that his friends or neighbors also go through. The narrator and a group of kids get into various adventures in the neighborhood. I think that many of the characters are trying, in their own way to leave Miguel Street. For example, Bogart was one of the characters who left Miguel Street, for his own, specific reasons. I would have to say that the only character to be able to successfully leave Miguel Street, was the narrator. He probably left with the hope of making something of himslef."
"Miguel Street" is a collection of short stories interconnected by an unnamed narrator. I think the short stories in this book were ok. The top three stories that I enjoyed the most were "Bogart", "The Thing With out a Name" and "Love, Love, Love Alone". I'd have to say these three were the three were the best because they show how people change over time after something bad happens. One of the characters who I'd have to say who endured most of the change was Popo."
"My favorite story from Miguel Street was B.WordsWorth. I enjoy this short story about him because he was a creative, intresting man to me. The reason why is because he wwas a poet eho had a dream of making the best poem ever for humanity. He showed the protaganoist, how to live, how to have fun, and to let things be and forgive others. This inspired the boy, as well as me. One of the quotes Mr.B. WordsWorth told to the protaganoist about how he felt about his brother, W. WordsWorth, was "We share one heart. I can watch a small flower like the morning glory and cry." This statement by B. WordsWorth really got me on my toes becuase it was very poetic. It shows me how WordsWorth has a romantic side and is gentlemen, who is not afraid to show his emotions.
I didn't really like Miguel Street, thats why i gave it 2 stars, because even though there were some good stories i enjoyed besides B. WordsWorth, like Man-Man, The Coward, and The Maternal Instinct, it was still kinda dull. I did enjoy the different quotes, and local color that the author used, as well as the people accent of how they talked, but i still didn't kinda get it. Like i get ot how its about the portaganoist expreinces of what his life was like in Miguel street, but i still didn't get it. My teacher for chemistry, Mr. Jewram, said he loved this book, he said he it reminded him of home and people who comes from trindad or around that country really undertsand Miguel Street. With that, i tried to be as opened minded as possible, but i guess it just wasn't enough for me to really enjoy the book interest."
