"Ok, well normally I'm not a huge fan of the latter Chronicles, and the ones that are mostly biographies (like Merrick for example) but I found I was sucked into this one. It wasn't exactly the story of Merrick herself, but more so what led to the conclusion of David's tale: bringing Claudia's spirit to talk to Louis. I'm a big fan of the classic characters, and Claudia has always been one of my favorites. It was a nice touch to see her again, even if it was only for a fleeting moment.
Louis being so tormented by Claudia brought me to tears, and his bewitched obsession with Merrick infuriated me. In short, it was an emotional tale with a refreshing. It was one of Anne Rice's newer vampires that stood out in my mind. (Unlike Quinn and Mona.)"
"Merrick wasn't a horrible read. In fact, some of the backstory into Merrick's past and her relations were interesting. Rice's writing is as lush and indulgent as ever. However, while I enjoyed it during Interview with the Vampire, I found it tedious in Merrick.
I didn't particularly care for most of the characters in this novel and I think the original magic of Interview has been completely lost by this tale."
