"The essence of perennial Stoic wisdom in aphorisms of stunning insight and simplicity. The West's first and best little instruction book offers thoroughly contemporary and pragmatic reflections on how best to live with serenity and joy."
"This is a classic of Stoic philosophy. My dad suggested it to me. I am finding already that the Stoics share something with the Buddhists in their mutual belief that emotional attachments and desires are a primary cause of unhappiness in our lives. I am grappling with this a little though because I am not sure life would be better if everyone detached themselves from their emotional connexions. However, I also feel that this initial reaction on my part is not exactly what these thinkers were driving at. Like all philosophy I keep a few grains of salt handy and keep myself from being stifled by taking the pieces that appeal to me most and discarding the others. This is a good book so far."
