"This series has the same premise as the Vince Flynn books, but lacks in readability. Thor's writing is elementary in nature and I found myself thinking, "I'm not in 1st grade, why are you writing like I am." I was so annoyed with his style that I stopped reading the series. Scot Harvath also isn't nearlly as BA as Mitch Rapp."
"I read this for the same reason I've read some other books--it tied-in with a place I visited on vacation. When I got the opportunity to travel to Switzerland, I did some searching for fictional books and found this typical airport thriller that had my hotel's city right in the title! That part was really fun, as the name-dropping for landmarks included all sorts of things I saw myself. No question about it, that was a lot of fun for me.
But objectively, this is yet another Tom Clancy knockoff, something that I'd have more fun watching on the silver screen than reading. I'm glad I read it; it was just what I was after, but it's not something I'd recommend.
P.S. The Washington DC locations were fun, too, as we were on vacation there last spring."
"The first in the Scot Harvath series. I have been told this is the poorest of the batch-but should be read first for establishing character etc. Too late! My previous experience with Thor was Harvath #7 in the series. I wasn't paying attention when Sharon gave me a bag of mercy books so I started backwards. Now I can see how his writing improved because "Lions of Lucerne" is clunky and a little more than slightly preposterous. But . . . and here's the rub . . . his testosterone level is almost as high as Cussler and the prose is infinitely better than Rollins. So, for a continuing infusion of machismo, I went to the flea market and bought three more (they were having a sale 3 for $5). Assuming each improves, I may eventually catch up to #7. We'll see."
"Good, solid read. The main character, Scot Harvath, is not completely one-dimensional, but I'd like to know more about him before I dig deeper into another one of these books. Great descriptions and scenery though - it's part tour guide, part action/adventure."
