"So I'm in computer science but am making a switch to computational biology, which means I need to learn a lot of biology in a hurry. This is the best textbook I've found so far, at least in terms of readability. The chapters are shorter than with the other books I've tried, and the concepts are presented more clearly. Also, it doesn't assume I know much chemistry, so I can read it and pick up the key concepts while I work through some organic chemistry texts, unlike some of the other biology textbooks that were so heavy on biochemistry I had to put them aside for the time being. One last thing I'm liking is the use of figures and pictures. Some of the other textbooks have so many damn figures with SO MUCH text attending the figures that it's like reading 2 books at the same time. This one has figures, but not as many and not as much text to go with them, so there isn't that hassle of spending 5 minutes understanding every figure and then having to figure out where you were in the main text before you got side-tracked."
