""Life of Galileo" is a play by Brecht written in 1938 which tells the life of the scholar Galileo and his researches in the field of the astronomy. Beyond the bibliographic aspect, Bertolt Brecht approaches the subject of the fight between the science and the power because by defending the Copernicus' ideas , Galileo has to face the Church and its dogmae. But beyond this story, we can extrapolate the fight of Galileo against the Church and a part of the scientific community as being the fight between the truth and the obscurantism. It is also question of the commitment and what a man is ready to make to defend these ideas. This play is to my opinion one of the best play by Brecht and I advise you to read this book if you wish to discover the particular universe of this German playwright."
"One of the better books I had to readin school, in fact I really liked it. Which is rare. But reading books from Brecht is always a nice addition to your usual reading tastes since they are nice to read, with fine humour and drama.
"Brecht beautifully dramatizes the last years of Galileo's life. He captures big concepts (religion, dogma, astrology, labor rights, intellect, obsession, theory) and weaves an engaging and thrilling work. Yay, Brecht!"
