Books 1 and 3 are very instructive on how to apply the teachings of the "ascended masters" which our modern day monotheistic religions are basing their often misguided dogmatic, law-producing theology on. These volumes provide the teachings AND their applications from the teachers themselves as Mr. Spalding had direct contact with these enlightened souls.
These are books which, again, are meant to be experienced.
If you are on a search for your own experience with God, not what you've been told "He" is, then this is a must read along the way (at least books 1 & 3 and maybe 6).
** Side note: You do not need to read these books in order. I read book 3 first, as I had some particular interest in the "real" teachings of Jesus. I felt very illuminated after reading this book and almost relieved that what I always sensed was true really was."
