"Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema should be considered one of the last great classical painters of his time, the purity of his art is evident in his scenes of antiquity and ancient history. This book is a great summation of his life and work with plenty of colour reproductions. The text of the book by Barrows is well informed and written, at times her theories as to the meaning of Alma-Tadema's art a litte reaching, but this is a minor point overall. The book is a must-have for anyone interested in classicism, architecture & history. Highly recommended!"
