"fun book. i liked how the story circled back and how the poem at the end tied it together. i also liked the party dialogue. fun to figure out who was saying what!"
"Larry lives a very dreamy detached existence, marrying his childhood sweetheart Dorrie, working in a flower shop, until one day he visits the Hampstead Heath Maze and his view of the world changes forever. Filled with awe for labyrinths of plants, Larry becomes a landscape architect and learns to build them. Sadly, Dorrie does not understand his passion, and only sees it as an obsessive force which is pulling him away from her. Determined to pull him back to her side, she recklessly engages in an act of vandalism that pushes him away, instead. Larry embarks on his new phase of life with the determination of an artist.
This is a wonderful book which manages to stay light and entertaining. It ends with a delightful twist. Highly readable!"
"I liked this book a lot. It helped me to think inside of a man's head... but it was written by a woman, so maybe it is just wishful ladies thinking. It had a very satisfying ending. None of this No-Ending business. The story had a nice complete conclusion.
I also went to Leeds Castle to see the maze there and the turquoise treat in the center. It was wonderful and well worth it. I thought of Larry the whole time I was there."
"I loved The Stone Diaries, but Larry's Party did not do anything for me. I found the writing spectacular, but for me the book overdosed on character description and I didn't like any of the characters or particularly want to find out about them."
