"This novel takes place in the lead-up to WWII. Furst jumps right into the era and frequently references events and people that I am totally unfamiliar with. I spent the first part of the book fairly lost and unsure as to what exactly was going on. Once I was able to settle into it, to connect a few things and figure it out a little, it was an enjoyable suspense/spy novel, but not in the typical sense. The main character certainly has his exploits, but they aren't washed in a veneer of machismo and bravery."
