"I read this in Spanish for my Clase de Lectura. It really wasn't a good one for them to choose to translate into Spanish because the first chapter is about Junie wanting to change her name to Rosi Gladis Guzman. Her father doesn't like the idea and tells her the name is too long. For my students in the DR, they don't relate to that at all. They all have names considerably longer, sometimes 4 parts long, but they understand that Junie is American so they just feel like it shows that Americans don't like names of Hispanic origin. Too bad too because salons are a big deal in the DR and I thought this story was going to be pretty cross cultural."
"I would give this book one and a half stars. The story isn't built to be quite as funny as most of the previous Junie B. Jones books that I've read, but our main girl is as spirited and spunky as ever, with a new drive in mind of becoming a...well, a hair stylist, or "beauty shop guy." I never really thought that such an occupation would appeal to Junie B. all that much, but I guess it's something new that I've learned about her! Emerging readers will enjoy this book for its funny parts, and for others it will at least prove a cathartic, humorous read."
"this other book is about how junie b. jones want to be beauty shop guy and shecut her hair the dog hair and her slapper and at the end of the book her daddy come to pick her up from school and take of her hat and take her the his barber"
"What's the bestest job ever? A beauty shop guy, that's what! And Junie B. Jones is going to be one when she grows up. But first she needs a little practice. And a few volunteers. Like her bunny slippers. And her dog. And maybe even...herself? Is Junie B. on her way to a great new career? Or is she about to have the worst hair day ever?"
