This is probably the most widely read first-person account of out-of-body experiences, and by a very experienced experiencer. The breadth of Monroe's experiences makes for fascinating reading, though his elliptical style is at times frustrating. Takes thought beyond."
"Looked into these phenomena deeply, experimentally. I came to the conclusion the central experience is all about dream states: conscious dreaming. This accounts for the peculiarly limited awareness/mind function when one is experiencing them. And also for the very limited applicabilty of the experience.
Like most induced mind states the application of the term 'spiritual' to them must be very, very carefully limited. Think chemical imbalances; think low blood pressure; think psychological colourations."
"One of the oddest books I've ever read. It's one of the few books to truly challenge my fierce material take on our universe. Without giving too much away, it will certainly make you stop and think. If you tend to cleave to spiritual answers you may find the book comforting - or threatening. It all depends on your personal beliefs and how those beliefs are informed. If you are a non-believer, this book will either have you scoffing or trembling. In any case, the text includes a - recipe, if you will - for "traveling". If you are faint of heart, DO NOT try it. If you are an Eck, this book will resonate. If you don't know what "Eck" means, Google "Eckankar". Why only 3 stars? I am a tad skeptical of Monroe's claims."
