About this title: This book, which is presented as an autobiographical account, tells the tale of a depressed teen who became involved with a Satanic group. After participating in several occult rituals, "Jay" believed that he was being stalked by a demon named Raul. Several readers have challenged the authenticity of this story, claiming that the real "Jay" was simply a depressed kid who abused illegal drugs and eventually committed suicide.

"This book wasn't terrible, but when compared with Go Ask Alice I just couldn't give it more than three stars. I read Go Ask Alice along with every other girl my age in middle school and we were all hooked. Once I found out this "anonymous" writer had "anonymously edited" another "journal" I naturally picked it up at our library.
I was totally weirded out by the Satanic rituals and a lot of the time the story just didn't ring true to me...The idea and concept and messages behind the story though are important and I recommend to anyone that read Go Ask Alice."
"WOOOOOOW....... I truly love this book, It is about a boy named Jay who wants everything, He is not sure if he wants it or not but just the idea of doing something overpowers him to do things he may not be proud of. His life begins as many 14 year old boys would, Bearly knowing the definition of drugs, getting high, rolling, and of course drinking. He is very aware of the things he is doing and knows that it is wrong to do but he will not do anything about it and just follows along. Jay got a job at his fathers pharmacy store with hopes of one day having his own and having many around the country to mamke his fathers and grandfathers dreams come true. Things were going great until Jay fell in love with Debby Dale. Debby was everything to Jay, the air he breathed, The soul to his body, And his whole world. Jay would count the seconds to see her again. Nobody liked her she had a bad reputation in her community, bad enough it was thatr everybody knew everybodys past, present and life story, Debby was known to get with a guy just to get drugs. Drugs were the only thing that kept Jay and her together, Jay loved her soo much he would steel drugs from his fathers pharmacy just to make her happy, When Jay realises that this is wrong he decides to take the pain killers and switches the medication to sugar. A little after his aunt is dying of cancer seeing how much she is suffering it hurt me when she just told Jays dad to give her a pill to die. He felt so..."
"This book is the true narrative of an adolescent who dabbles in Satanism and gets pulled into a world he never imagined, taken from the boy's own journals. The drugs he takes might explain the unbelievable encounters with the supernatural. His descent is explicit and disturbing. This narrative is NOT for the faint of heart or the sensitive in spirit."
"A harrowing, terrifying story of a sixty year old woman & an ancient hispanic demon in his late twenties ("Raul") who conspire to turn the lives of an already grieving family totally upside-down. This non-fiction "problem book" (told around the thinly veiled narrative frame of a teenager's fictional diary) tackles the issues of delusional religious 'morality,' pathological fraud, and the very real people sadly lost in their wake.
While the narrator ("Beatrice Sparks") arguably makes some unfortunate 'sacrifices' in spinning her tale --namely the family of Alden Bennett in Pleasant Grove, Utah--she apparently does so only (?) to warn youths against participation in an enormous underground subculture of ritual devil worship. Tragically, she is seemingly not aware that such a subculture does not actually exist outside of urban legends that originated on heels of the popular horror films "Rosemary's Baby" (in 1968) and "The Omen" (in 1976.)
Despite the very thorough and insightful ruminations on the aforementioned issues of paranoia and misrepresentation, the cautionary tale at the heart of the work is simply so sad (an almost cartoonish exploitation of a mother whose son has recently killed himself) and the narrator so naive and misinformed (not very believable) that I can only give the book one star, the lowest possible rating."
