"I love the Wizard of Oz, but even for me, the notes and comments soon got distracting. I definitely would not recommend this book for your first read through of the book. Many of the notes were obvious and not really all that pertinent to the story. That being said, the included illustrations were lovely and certainly do add something that is missed from text only additions of the Wizard of Oz."
"This is a really interesting book. But, it is A LOT to read. I will likely never finish it but it's fun to pick up from time to time and browse through it.
The intro part (which I did finish) has quite a bit about Baum/his life/his writing style, beliefs, etc.
The main part of the book is, as the title indicates, an annotated version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Every single page of the story has many, many, notes about what Baum was "saying". Or, what he "meant".
If someone were to ever do a thesis on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz or Baum, this would be a must-have resource!"
"it was good to read the book (maybe for the first time) and learn interesting facts. a lot of the notes seemed superfluous or off the mark, but it was so lavishly and interestingly done that i still really enjoyed it."
