About this title: Anne Shirley leaves her home in Avonlea to attend Redmond College. As Anne's life changes, so do things back home. What will become of Anne and all her old friends?
Note: This is a general synopsis. Each listing is described below.
"I think I'm beginning to see how they made the second movie. It seems they took events from the second, third and forth books and put them together so that the end of the third book is how the second movie ends, but now what I'm reading in the forth book is at the beginning of the second movie. Confusing. The funny thing is, while I enjoy all the extra characters and events of the books, my favorite moments from the movies are the ones that are the most changed. Some of Gilbert's best lines, for example, and what makes you really see how Anne falls in love with him are actually said by other characters in the books. I think if I hadn't seen the movie I would love the book, but the movie has a lot better romance in it. I'm not sure which is better overall. I like them both."
"Re: some of the below comments - yes there's the purple prose; yes there's Davy 'wanting to know'; yes there's the Stern, Preachy Lesson in Ruby's death. BUT - there's also Patty's Place. I will always want to live at Patty's Place. And there's romance. The Anne/Gilbert storyline is as old as Aunt Josephine Barry, but Montgomery tells it well. I will always thrill to the "...dream of a home with a hearth-fire in it, a cat and dog, the footsteps of friends - and you!"
I had forgotten the rule of doing what you will have wished you had done when you are eighty, and I'm glad to have it back in my psyche. Also, here's a lovely line from Anne, when she learns of Phil's engagement: "...I'm heart-glad of your happiness.""
"When I get to heaven, I want to meet Lucy Maud Montgomery! What insight the woman had, and what depth. I loved the first book for its tenderness and vitality, the second for its insight and humor. This book had all of those things, but added something more--tremendous depth. I believe the theme of this book is maturity, and the old characters as well as some new ones gain and display this quality without making the book at all dry or humorless--it is quite the opposite. Of course, there are other themes as well, not the least of which is love. But I wouldn't spoil the book for you--just read it! (P.S. This book helped me to realize that the movie "Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel," which I have loved all my life, must now be sold. I will never be able to enjoy it the same way again, knowing what the story was meant to be!)"
"Again, nih buku sebenernya udah ngga pantas dikategorikan sebagai buku anak karena khaaann.. tokoh ceritanya udah 20 tahun di akhir cerita, huahahaha..
