"This is the best book I have seen for the beginner studying Polish. All too often people quickly become discouraged by textbooks that unintentionally intimidate tjhe student with the complexities of the Polish language. The author is apparently British, but I encountered none of the occasional problems wirh British English one sometimes encounters in other British textbooks. In 20 relatively short and simpe chapters, Stone presents the basics of the language in a simple, easy to follow manner. The vocabulary introduced was obviously carefully chosen to assist in simple conversations. The Vocabulary section at the end is excellently laid out., with references to where particular words are introduced/used in the text. All that is lacking is a tutor to help with learning proper pronunciation. For Polish-Americans who may not speak the language but are familiar with its sounds, It may well be possible to learn basic Polish just with the use of this book.. IINTRODUCTION TO POLISH is quite a find. I wish we had it as a textbook when I studied Polish in college, I have learned things just grazing through the book.. My congratulations to Mr. Stone on a textbook well done.. I hope that Mr Stone has written an advanced Polish textbook, or that one is being prepared, in the same style with the same clarity. I plan to look for it."
