I am currently reading a book named Intensity. The book is very intense. The book is about a serial killer and a girl. One day a a serial killer came into a home and killed the family but little did the killer know that the family had a guest in the house and that guest's name was Chyna. The only reason why the serial killer did not kill Chyna was because she hid under the bed and watched him lurk around the bedroom. She then noticed her best friend was not dead but she was hurt. Chyna thinking she could save her went to retrieve a gun but only found a butcher knife. By the time she went back to her friend the killer had already taken her to his motor home. Chyna followed him into his motor home and stayed hidden once again. But then she noticed that her friend was not alive anymore so she had no point in saving her."
"I've been reading this book for a while, mostly because I only read it at lunch. Some of it though had to do with the book itself.
I like the story, believe me...It's interesting. The characters however, are not. I didn't care for any of them...if they lived, if they died, if they hurt or suffered or didn't. They failed to generate any emotions in me. I couldn't bring myself to care about them (other than my own inward mocking at the name 'Chyna'...kept thinking of the WWF (WWE, whatever) wrestler. The thing that kept me going was the tale itself....I wanted to know how the story resolved, irregardless of who 'won' or why. It was all about what happened that made the book for me.
Would the book have been much better with better characters that actually inspired empathy/hatred/compassion/fear/caring, any emotion in myself, the reader? MOST DEFINATELY. If the book possessed characters I connected with emotionally, either hating or loving, would have resulted in my giving this book a 4 or a 5. But uninspired characters with no emotional attachment or commitment on my part means it gets a 2.
Ah well, c'est la vie. Read it for the story, forget the characters, they are meaningless."
"Wanna read a book in a weekend? This is a good one. Critics like to use terms like "no holds barred roller coaster thrill train" or "Wild mustang unrelenting tension engine torqueing your fear brain". OK I've never heard that last one, but I'd probably use it to describe this book. It's pretty, well... intense. I read it in like 10 hours I think."
