For centuries, the leaders on each side of the conflict have sent agents to Earth to influence the result of the conflict. Finally, when the planet has become populated by these agents, a man ...

"To start with, I have read Barker's work off and on since I was a teenager and have not been disappointed with any of his works until I recently read Mr. B Gone. So, to put Barker back in perspective, I finally tackled this mammoth book that I have put off due to its length.
After finishing it, I will say that it is very good and the imagination involved in creating this plot is impressive. However, I didn't find it to have to many (if any) "horror" sequences and I didn't find the overall tone as dark as everything else I've read by him. That said, I did enjoy the book but thought that it could've been a little shorter. But then again, so could King's Dark Tower saga. If you like Barker and have never read it, do so. If you don't like Barker's work, why are you looking at this?"
"Unfortunately, not all books are going to appeal to everyone. I've read many reviews about how people love this book, but as for myself, it was fairly grueling to get through. First and foremost, I had a hard time keeping people and places straight. Also, the plot line (in the best of descriptions I can muster) kinda bloomed slowly over time. There wasn't an obvious plot development in the whole story. To me as a reader, I kinda got what the author was trying to describe about 30 pages later after it was first introduced. Secondly, I just couldn't wrap my head around the characters and their emotions. They all seemed really dead to me, not intriguing at all, and just wandering around feeling lost and hopeless.
Written differently, I believe I could have enjoyed this book. The parts I did understand, I enjoyed, as well as the thematic elements, especially those nearing the end of the story. However, I'm a fan of "the guy gets the girl and happy ending" books, so this is not a story for me, and I freely admit that."
"From reading this I learned that vivid dreams can make great novels. Barker must have eaten a few rounds of cheese on toast the night before he came up with the premise for Imajica: Painter/Womaniser/Son of God finds and teams up with androgynous alien assassin and travels through the In Ovo to another dominion before releasing femininity to the ultimate destruction of the establishment. And then God comes in at the end.
This is clearly a summary and not a very accurate one at that. I think I love this book because I read it at an age when I was still quite impressionable and I let myself believe that if I found the right artifact I could magic myself to Yzorderrex (sp?) and have a real adventure with Hoi Polloi and chums.
Fact is, I'm still that impressionable now and can't rule out that there is another world to discover. I'll keep reading this one because it helps me to believe. Well done Clive."

"Following the release of the awesome novel "Everville", Clive Barker published the Dark Fantasy classic "Imajica" in 1991. This epic adventure into the fantastic world of Barker's endless imagination runs for a very impressive and gripping 1136 pages in total. The storyline is complex, weaving multiple plots together to create the rich tapestry that has made Imajica such a loved and respected novel.
The characterization is detailed and superb, as you are taken through a whole fantasy world that will set your imagination alight. Barker's descriptions are vivid and darkly fantastic, with a deep atmosphere that immerses the reader into the story he has to tell.
Altogether, this is one of Barker's greatest achievements, bringing us a novel that will be cherished by all. It's a novel you will miss once finished and find yourself re-reading again and again as the years go by."
