"I don't generally go for self-help books. I find that most of them couch painfully common sense in media-ready sound bytes, and it pains me in return to spend money on them. But this one caught my eye, and flipping through it, kept it, so I gave in to the urge (needed something light and fluffy after all that Cambodia/Khmer Rouge reading anyway!). What do you know? This is a fantastic book. I practiced some of the techniques the other day at a gathering of a few new acquaintances, and they worked like a charm. That says some frightening things about the human animal, however - are we all really so predictably infantile in what we want?"
"Well, first of all I actually went out and bought this book. And although I say I only liked it I did learn a few things from it because Leil gives little tips that are easy to remember. Some of it though was just completely pointless to me because I don't really have a briefcase and dinner party sort of job, so those parts were useless.
It does though have some witty little stories and kept my attention enough for me to actually read it all and finish it which is rare."
"There are some pretty good tips in this book that I an going to try to put to use. For example, use a "slow smile", start sentences with "you" instead of "I", and not using idioms. However, I found myself not wanting to read the chapters and only wanting to read the tip boxes in grey at the end of each chapter. Didnt really find the author's writing style engaging enough, I guess."
