"So who hasn't read this story...brilliant, funny, so Canadian, so Quebec...this is for adults with kids, kids, or just adults needing whimsy as Carrier tells the story of a young man in need of a hockey sweater."
"Simply a classic. Even if you are not a hockey fan, you will end up enjoying this book. The tale is simple and transcends all sport borders - who can bear to put on a rival team's sweater? The opening lines are memorable, with a perfect finish at the very end. Worth a read in both English and French!"
"I'm not a hockey fan, but I do love other sports, and that was enough for me to identify with the boy in this book. Can you imagine expecting the jersey of your favorite player, opening the package, and finding a jersey from your hated rival team? I think I probably would have reacted the same way as this boy. The story is never preachy and there's no lesson, just a boy having to deal with mix-up, ridicule, and the jersey of a hated team.
The illustrations are fantastic. I love the colors, and the hockey sweaters are rendered in fabulous detail. Even if, like me, you're not a hockey fan, you'll enjoy this book."
"I enjoyed this a lot. The stories are very short, but powerfully written. I only wish I'd been able to read it in the original French instead of translated. I always feel like I'm losing a part of the experience when I read translated literature."
