"What's interesting about this text is that Moore, the author, was told he could only write about the Green Berets if he became one. So he went through training, etc, before going over. New (original?) meaning of embedded journalism? Interesting in its accepted paradigm of who has access to military events. Also in its stated fictionality--Moore claims all this stuff evokes the actual events he witnessed, but that he can't write about those things directly because to do so would be to jeopradize the men involved. One of the early novels around the Vietnam conflict."
"when choosing this book, i really was just attempting to bridge the gap between my father's insane militant career and my own pacifist belief. ok. i just wanted to know what the dude had to deal with. for some reason, i thought it would teach me more about the stuffed genes i am made of. and it did. i think."
