"I saw this book orignially in a used book store and it screamed at me, "read me!" It was an original signed copy selling for $195. I didn't want to spend that much, so I bought the contemporary version for $16.
I have often wondered what the orignal beliefs and teachings were of the Native people of North America. Ernest Thompson Seton was the founder of the Boy Scouts and an early voice for Native rights. He was also a naturalist and artist and had a deep respect for the Native way of life and their philosophy.
The book paints a very rosy picture of Native Americans as noble; kind, deeply spiritual, communal and altruistic. Not sure that it was that way in real life all the time. All cultures have their positive and negative attributes. Nevertheless is was an interesting read."
