"This book is a little bit older and you can tell through the illustrations. They are a little bit bland and not really a very memorable book. Most of the time, I felt like just flipping through the pages rather than actually reading the dialogue. I did however like that this story does not end happily, with the gingerbread being eaten by a fox. Its a good lesson for kids but probably not a book that I would recommend."
"THis book is about an old lady who makes gingerbread cookies and the gingerbread comes to life. He tricks everyone except for the fox who eats him. This a fun silly book that I would use in the classroom."
"Summary: A little old woman and a little old man don't have any children so they bake a gingerbread boy, but when he comes out of the over, he runs away! He runs very fast and sings, "You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Boy! I am! I am!" He runs from the old couple, from a cow, a horse, some threshers, and some mowers, until he comes to a river. To get across, he hops on a fox's back, then to his shoulder, then his head, then his nose, when Snip! Snap! Snip! The fox eats him all up, just like every other gingerbread boy. Evaluation: I like this story and what it teaches about being prideful and foolish and being deceived to think you are safe in dangerous situations. It had fun, simple drawings that showed the country aspects of the story. And I like how the fox, a clever trickster, gets his meal and takes a nap, showing up all the others who were not clever enough to catch the Gingerbread Boy."
