"Surprisingly good. When I found out that this story deals with a teenage delinquent doing social service in a nursing home and confiding in her bio-dad about having had an abortion I thought "Why didn't I examine the plot more closely before I put this book on my wishlist?" (Answer: Recommended by Teensreadtoo). Now I was given the book at Easter and read it quickly not expecting much. I am surprised about how much I like the heroine and about how much the story sticks with me. I am even thinking about keeping the book and reading the follow-up (Cupcake).."
"This is like an R-rated version of Spinelli's Star Girl. I found this for a quarter at the library and bought it for my classroom library. It was in my car at a moment when I had some down-time away from home. I figured it'd be better than nothing, but it turned out to be quite a gem. This would have been my all-time favorite book had it existed when I was in high school. ***Spoiler Alert for teachers & parents****
Teenage protagonist (age 15?) is promiscuous & has an abortion."
"Would I recommend this to a teen? No. Again, this is a good reason to have some idea as to what your kid is reading. The cover looks harmless, but the way the topics are covered, I wouldn't give it to my teen to read. Waaaaay too nonchalant about things that should be taken seriously. I also get bugged when some authors act like ALL teens are into things they shouldn't be --just a natural way of life. Religious views completely aside, not enough credit is given to those kids who do have morals or parents who actually pay attention to their kids' lives."
"This was probably the dumbest book I ever read. The main character learns nothing from her HORRIBLE mistakes, and blames most of them on other people. She's incredibly selfish and has no respect for herself or anyone else. I hated the end where her mom patted her on the head and said oh you killed a helpless baby im so sorry for you now we can be best friends. hate it! unrealistic and very cruel."
