"Although a bit dated, this is the best one volume guide to all aspects of Galapagos natural history (geology, climate, plants and animals) I've found. If you are on a tour, the licensed guides required for entry to most of the archipelago are usually grad students, so a guide book is less needed than most places, but it's worthwhile if you want to bone up in advance or check facts you're not sure you took in by ear."
