"Gross, I read it but it wasn't a good book. I wanted to read a James Bond book, and I found it too sexual, too much into bodies and thinking about demented things. I won't read another of his books, though my husband does say that this is not his best."
"Over the summer I re-read all of the Ian Fleming James Bond books in order of their publication date(don't read any of the junk by others who followed Fleming after he died). Mostly I re-read the books because the re-issue paper-backs had such cool covers. The books are a one day read and absolutely a hoot."
"This book really crosses the line in my opinion. I have enjoyed James Bond as a short, fun, over the top spy books, but this one has way too much needless sexuality. Too bad. I guess I'm done with 007."
"The only flaw with this book is that it takes nearly 90 pages for James Bond to even show up. That aside this is the best overall plot since Casino Royale and has Grant, one of the nastiest villains ever. What's interesting here is that Bond is smart enough to know he is entering a trap but crazy enough to move ahead with his mission anyway. Fleming takes you into Istanbul and resists his long winded and often racist tangents that pop up in the other books. This was made into the second Bond movie and it's probably the most faithful adaptation along with On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale. The movie goes the book better by getting the plot set up quicker and showing a heist the book only mentions. However, the last two pages of this book provide a great cliffhanger that makes up for the long winded opening. So far, this is the second best of the books but I hope there's better to come."
