""Forged by Fire" by Sharon M. Draper shows how kids today experience a lot of hardships, like sexual abuse, drugs, death, abuse, etc. This book is a great example on how some minors fight to be able to hold their family together. The author included a lot of foreshadow like fire which foreshadowed hardship and symbolism. The conclusion had to be worked on a bit. (Not going to say the ending). But there was a lot of realistic events that happen to some unfortunate kids like Gerald. Gerald represents all those struggling kids that have unfortunate lives.
I loved this book and look forward to showing it to other via goodreads. I give this book a 8/10 due to the lack of emphasize the author puts to the ending. But still, everything else didn't let the conclusion give the story a bad rating."
"Have you ever been abused by your father? Did your hosue ever catch on fire twice? Well all these things happened to Gerald Sparks. When you read this book you will cry, laugh, and be eager to read the next page. As you read Forged by Fire, you will notice it has more drama than there is in movies. This amazing story is about Gerald and his sister Angel surviving an abusive step father, a careless mother, and a dead aunt that took Gerald in. This heart-filled story takes place in Atlanta where gangs fought, drugs were everywhere, and lives were taken one by one. The theme of this story is when you're alone you can also survive by just believing in yourself and you can do anything. Another theme of this book is if you're getting hurt physically and mentally you can tell someone. Forged by Fire is a tragic but suspenseful book that you cannot put down. The author of this book but tragedies and some of her life into this book. She puts events that you would never get bored with. The author also includes a sequence of events to make the book so interesting. And the last thing about this book is the quote and the quote is, "You're not alone."
"Forged by fire is about a boy named Gerald who experiences a very troubled childhood. When he was three his mother, a drug addict leaves him alone as she has done before. This time he accidentally sets the apartment on fire. His mother is imprisoned for neglect. Gerald then lives with a great aunt named "Aunt Queen" who is wheelchair bound, but gives him love he needs. Later when Gerald in nine, his mother returnes with his new sister and a man who maybe her father. They want to take Gerald back, but he wants to stay with Aunt Queen who soon dies of a heart attack. Gerald hates his step father for being violent and abusing his half sister, who looks to Gerald for protection. Taking care of his sister seems to give him the love he has always needed. In trying to defend his sister, the apartment sets on fire and the step father is killed. I can make a text to world connection with this book because there are so many people living today who have had troubled lives and have been abused. I rate this book a 4 because I think it is very realistic in dealing with issues that many people face. I would recommend this book to someone who like realistic stories."
"Forged by Fire is a really great novel, it captivated me so much into the book that I couldn't stop reading it. This novel was about a teenage boy, Gerald living with his younger stepsister, Angel and his horrible stepfather, Jordan. Originally when Gerald was younger he was living with his aunt, but one day a terrible incident happened the caused him to lose his loving aunt. He had to move in with his stepfather and stepsister. One day he found out about the things his stepfather did to Angel, and he was determined to protect her from him. Jordan would abuse, or molest her when he's drunk, or whenever he feels like it. This book really gets to the reader and it can connect to many people in the world. These incidents have happened to many people in the world. I reccomend this book to many people who like reading about very dramatic books. Dramatic books are my favorite and this book got me ver interested and it left me thinking at the end of the book. I had friends who told me this book was great and reccomending it to me. This novel is a very interesting book that kept me wanting to read more."
