This book is full of life-affirming essays that get to the heart of what it means to be human. There's nothing polly-anna about the collection. Fulghum is terrific.

"I first read this book when I was 16, and although some of what was written was above me; I found a lot of the humour understandible and soothing at a time when it was needed. The book is "like chicken soup for the soul" only it has an umbrella scope because anyone from and walk of life, any religious backgroud can read it and get what Mr. Fulghum is saying.
I know that quite a few of the essays in this particular book have shown up in various editions of Chicken Soups, but this is where I prefer to read his works.
I give this 110% as far as uplifting, enlightening, supercharging the soul!"
"I am not sure this book is important to me. But I will tell you this - one of the most delightful things I had read in a long time, and a thing I have tried to memorize, is Fulghum's wonderful list:
"Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK...""
