"This is a very thorough life of Waller written by his son. The son's obvious affection for his father possibly colors the story a bit as the character traits in Waller that were not positive are somewhat glossed over. There is nothing new in this biography but it certainly is a complete account. One puts it down at the end with a bit of sadness, as it is clear that Waller - due to his race and socio-economic background - never had the chance to develop his talents in other directions (classical)."
