"Absolutely horrifying. Every word. Unless women want to be weak, outwardly submissive, seemingly helpless, subtly manipulative, and encouraging of pedophilic tendencies in men. Give me Lara Croft over a Madame Alexander doll any day. I'm going to stop reviewing now, before I become really angry, swear a blue streak, and commit perfectly justifiable acts of violence."
"This book has contributed nothing meaningful to my marriage. Wait, no....there is something! We now make plenty of great jokes about derailing a fight by acting girlish.
For example, husband says: "Hey, I think we need to talk about some ways to save more money in our household."
Wife says coquettishly in a little girl voice: "Oh yeah? Well maybe I'll just BURN your pancakes, Mr. meany man!""
"Where did my review go? Dang. Anyway, my mom took a class with other nice Christian ladies, using this book. Basically, how to manage a man in a patriarchy, really. Things like how to stamp your pretty little foot and shake your little curls around when angry, rather than do something threatening like talking straight. He'll think you're so cute when you're mad, he'll give you your way, I guess. Mom lent it to me while I was visiting, and asked me what I thought, but she knew before she asked. I think this was late 60s or early 70s. She said, "The awful thing is, it works." And I said "If you can keep from throwing up." We had a good laugh. That's why it gets three stars, because my mom and I had fun with it."
"This is a very informative, old school "how to" book on relationships between husbands and wives. While it has what some would consider "out dated" ideas, I think the objective is to explain how men and women think, act and see things differently. It suggests ways to make the relationship with your husband (boyfriend) better by catering to his "ego". It stresses the importance of making your man feel "needed" and how much he needs that in order for him to feel "worthy" of his wife's love. Most people who read this book fall into 2 categories: they love it or they hate it. I think this is mainly based on the ideas of the specific age group reading the book. As for me, I think (like all self help books) you should gleam from it what is important to you and over look the rest."
