"This is a bit wordy for a board book, at least for the very young. And there is no rhyme or rythym which helps the story along for the youngest listeners. It is a cute story though of a lazy farmer and the overworked duck who keeps the farm running. Perhaps it would appeal to young infants more if there were animal sounds (aside from the occasional quack). Alex just wasn't interested."
"Kids usually sympathize with the duck, who is treated really poorly by the lazy and mean farmer. The author does a good job at making the reader really feel sadness and empathy. Depressing, but the farmer gets his due in the end."
