"From "The Wait": At first Sr. Villari never left the house, but after a few weeks had passed he started going out for a while at nightfall. In the evening he would occasionally go into the motion-picture theater three blocks away. He never sat nearer to the screen than the last row; he always got up a little before the picture was over. He saw tragic stories of the underworld; no doubt they had their errors; no doubt they included certain images that were also part of Sr. Villari's previous life, but he didn't notice the errors, because the notion that there might be parallels between art and life never occurred to him. He docilely tried to like things; he tried to take things in the spirit they were offered. Unlike people who had read novels, he never saw himself as a character in a book."
"absolutely brilliant imagination. so plain spoken sometimes he's telling you because telling is enough. paints with words. fairy tales for grown ups. imagination triggers. telling you myths deep in your foundation that you forgot you must have already known. what a fun mind to live inside you think to yourself. and of course it's all true."
"What was to be said about this masterpiece has already been said, much more bueautifully that I can express it, so I would just say that if you are into books, if you REALLY ARE INTO BOOKS, then it would be a pitty you died without reading this or probably any other from Borges..."
"Not as amazing as Ficciones; and honestly I just finished this and can't remember what 2 or 3 of the stories were about, though I understood them fine and enjoyed them as I was reading them. 'The Aleph', however, is possibly my favorite Borges story-- ever-- perhaps because it touches a little close to home (note to self: when you forget Ava, you should have forgotten everything else as well) and other pieces (The Theologians, and others) are close to as amazing. Borges is a good man."
