"Children ages 4-8 would enjoy this variant of the traditional Cinderella story. Rhodopis is a Greek slave girl in ancient Egypt. She is teased by the other Egyptian servant girls because of her light hair and rosy skin. The great falcon gives Rhodopis a change of fate when he drops her rosy-gold slipper into lap of Pharaoh Amasis. The Pharaoh decides the slipper is a sign from the gods that he must marry the girl whose foot fits the shoe. Readers will experience Egyptian mythology through this story's traditional folktale language and beautiful illustrations."
"A Greek slave is tortured by Egyptian servants in her master's household. She makes friends with animals and dances for them. Her master catches her dances and is taken back by her talent. To reward her he gives her a pair of slippers. A falcon steals the slipper and brings it to the pharaoh, who is the "Prince" of this story. The Pharaoh wants to search, find and marry the owner of the slipper.
I thought this version of Cinderella was unique and different. It would be great to use when comparing different versions of Cinderella or when talking about Multicultural fairytales. I loved the illustrations because they were unique and portrayed the animals in a different way"
"In an Egyptian land lives a Greek slave called Rhodopis. Rhodopis is scorned by all the Egyptian girls and only has her rose-red gold slipper to sparkle as she dances. One day this greek slave is heartbroken when a falcond swoops down and takes her slipper. Who would have thought that this slipper would be delivered to the Pharoah. The Pharoah is then in search to find his wife, the owner of this slipper."
"Being a history buff (especially ancient history) this book is one of my favorite childrens books. Cinderella story set in ancient Egypt. Fun and the illustrations are beautiful."
