"This was one of the first novels i remember reading and loving. I can still remember going into my school's library and checking on this book. I've read it more times than i can count, and each time i find something new about the characters, especially one of the greatest dragons ever envisioned. Morkeleb the Black is amazing, so alien and yet so fascinating. A classic of the fantasy/dragon genre."
"i love this book as much now as i did when i first read it at the age of 10 or 11. i can't begin to count how many times i've reread this. it obviously doesn't surprise me, but i still find it to be well written fantasy. dragon/witch fantasy in particular tends to feel stale for me. this story will probably last me my entire life."
"Hambly's novels are often complex things, with very interesting characters with completely human and believable motivations. This one is exceptionally show. Each of the characters face very tough decisions, that shape their character and futures. There are no happy endings here. It's both a big fantasy story, and a universal, simple human story."
