"These stories were excellent but they didn't strike me as masterpieces. I haven't given the book a 5-star rating because it just didn't seem that good as many of the other stories Borges has written. I prefer it when he writes in the style of 'magic realism' (if you want to use that term) rather than just relatively straight-forward 'realism' (if you want to use that one)."
"the stories and structures and themes &c felt repetitive (like Borges work mostly since he revolves around the same themes over and over). Some interesting insights abound. A four star story -- Guayaguil based off the Guayaquil conference btw San Martin and Bolivar. I liked the parallels drawn between said conference and his own (or fictional Borges') with a certain Dr. Eduardo Zimmerman over who should bring San Martin's very words (a transcript of the conference) to the world."
