About this title: At the age of 44, after a catastrophic stroke and several weeks in a coma, Jean-Dominique Bauby, editor of "Elle" magazine, became a victim of what is known as ''locked-in syndrome.'' Unable to move or speak, though he continued to feel pain, Bauby found eventually that he could move only his left eyelid. Using a specially constructed alphabet based on letter-frequency, he dictated this extraordinary memoir of his ordeal by blinking his good eye. Bauby died in March 1997.

"I did enjoy this book but recommend that you see the movie version first as I did. Then you have a vivid picture of what is actually happening.
He was incredible as he still used his mind to "go" places where he wanted to "go"."
"an amazing story....very thought provoking and inspiring. I highly recommend reading this book...it will get you to truly think and ponder about your own life problems, solutions and attitudes."
"Very inspiring; Jean-Dominique Bauby is imprisoned in his own body through locked-in syndrome after having a stroke, and can only communicate with his left eyelid. That is how he wrote this book, which is incredible in itself. But he also shows remarkable humor and strength despite his completely debilitating condition. It's horrifying to think that it's possible to be completely paralyzed without even the ability to use your vocal cords--it could happen to anyone--yet Bauby shows us that it's not the end, and that life can still go on."
"I saw the movie first and was very impressed but then I had to read the book. The book is even more amazing. So hard to believe that anyone could have the courage to write this testimony of loosing their control of their own body. I thought it was a wonderful and enjoyable read."
