About this title: Two armed strangers abduct a dentist, an unknown woman, and ex-military policeman Jack Reacher, who must try to save them all before they simply become pawns in a larger scheme that none of them can fully understand. Reacher must act immediately, though, as the kidnappers plan to act quickly--and lethally.

"The second Reacher novel, taking place a year or so after the first. While helping a lady on crutches pick up her dropped dry-cleaning from the street, he becomes her co-abductee-at- gunpoint. In this one, Child trades the first-person narrative of Killing Floor for third person omniscient, and plays around skillfully with the suspense-building techniques this switch allows.
AHHHHH this book made me become so enamored of the series that my heart starts beating faster when I passed the Lee Child shelf in the library. The brassiere murder in the horse barn ranks among my favorite action scenes of all time. Other much enjoyed sections included the scenes describing Reacher's ability to harness the power of adrenaline, maximize efficient usage of mental energy, and assess the geometric and meteorological factors involved in shooting a target 1000 meters away. I feel like an 8 year old boy reading Batman comics for the first time, enthusiastically filing my hero's survival techniques in my little brain, nevermind the fact that they would never work in the real world."
"More invested in this book than the first Jack Reacher. This is the second book I've read in the past week that has to do with right-wing militia groups. Interesting that, in this political climate, I'm happening upon this theme without any knowledge beforehand. I just find it coincidental.
Finished it last night. Definitely liked it better than the first. My biggest complaint about these books is the time he spends setting a scene. A lot of the action in this book takes place at an extremist camp in Montana. There were too many times where Child went on and on about movement through the woods, locations, etc. It was more detail than I needed to have to be able to approximate settings, visuals, and so on. Maybe it's because I have a small brain, but I definitely went shoe shopping in my head on those occasions."
"I enjoyed this book and the first Jack Reacher (Killing Floor) too, and I just do not know why. I hate coincidence in novels and Lee Child uses it shamelessly. Cheesy characters? Check. Hammy dialogue? Check.
The list of crimes that would normally have me shutting the pages of a book without a second glance (Da Vinci code are you listening?) pile up higher and higher. Yet I stayed glued to the page. Why?
Listen, if you want a simple action-packed read where you can put your brain on auto (and sometimes that is exactly what you want) then Lee Child is your man."
"Jack Reacher is as innocent a bystander as they come, right?
Well after being abducted along with a pretty woman (are there any other kind of women in Jack Reacher's life?) by three strange men Reacher faces trial after trial with practiced ease. Who knew training for a life in the Military Police would make you so prepared for all of life's travails.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars mostly because it was the first Lee Child novel I read and when you read an author for the first time its easy to get enamored of him. It's fast-paced and enjoyable. If I read too many more of his novels maybe I'll take away the fourth star, but for now I thought his story telling (for the most part) pretty much rocked!
