About this title: The concept of restoration is firmly established in the handling of applications for mineral extraction. However, with minor exceptions for particular types of development, consideration is not explicitly given to ensuring that a site is left in a state capable of re-use when giving planning permission for built development. The purpose of this research is to follow up the Government's consultation exercise, and to examine the ways in which the planning system might be used to prevent non-mineral sites from becoming derelict in the future.
