"I keep forgetting not to get poetry on rings or rays through Bookcrossing because the good stuff needs to be read and re-read and the bad stuff isn't worth the postage. This falls into the former category, but I suspect I have only scratched the surface of it. I can see and hear and feel the countryside in most of the poems, but they feel purely descriptive and don't say as much to me as the more personal ones such as Valediction & Scaffolding. Lest you think I'm just a soppy female, I also liked St. Francis & the Birds, The Folk Singers and The Play Way."
"There are a very few superb poems in this book, and a bunch that are pretty darn good. I do struggle with a few poems that seem like little gems, but have a word or two that seem wrong to me, and have the usual problem with modern poetry when the poet writes of some personal experience but does not tell you enough to really understand the subject, only the feelings that resulted. I hate that, and so three stars."
