About this title: In 1982, a Roman Catholic nun became the spiritual advisor to a condemned murderer who was soon executed. Powerfully and persuasively, with a compassion that embraces not only the terrified killer but the families of his victims and the men who executed him, Prejean narrates Patrick Sonnier's walk to the electric chair.

"True story of a woman who is trying to stop the death penalty. If you have strong opinions about this or are interested in it, she makes some strong arguements against the death penalty - ones that might even convert a strong prodeath person."
"I found this book interesting and well-written. Sister Prejean writes with to-the-point simplicity, weaving facts and arguments against capital punishment along with narratives of her experiences as spiritual advisor to criminals on Louisiana's death row. The book could've been half as long, I believe, as after her story of inmate Patrick Sonnier she basically repeats the same story regarding Robert Willie with much of the same arguments and information. Still, it's interesting to see how she learned and grew from her first experiences, so it's still worth your time to read it. My favorite part was probably Sister Prejean's constant efforts to be sympathetic and loving to all sides in these terrible situations. She fights off selfishness, pride, and revenge and seems to truly relish her role serving the Church and its flock on Earth, and it's inspiring. I wish all Christians could read and understand her arguments and see the problems with our criminal justice system, or at least be inspired to take a more active role in aiding the less fortunate of our country."
"I read this book while trying to decide how I really feel about capital punishment. I understand both arguments for and against the death penalty. For now, I have decided that I support life in prison as an option to the electric chair (or lethal injection). It seems that taking another's life just brings more heartache to another family. Not to mention when someone is sentenced to life in prison; the punishment is dealt with then and begins immediately. If someone gets the death penalty; the family has to wait for years and several appeals to see what they feel is "justice" done and no closure comes for awhile. Not to mention the high costs of the death penalty with appeals and such. Studies have been done and prove that life in prison is much cheaper. (Not to mention living in prison seems like worse punishment that dying to me.) However, I do realize that this subject has not directly affected me in any way. (and hope it never does) If it ever does; I may change my opinion because it is hard ato know how you would feel in any given situation."
